The day was packed with performances by bands from The Cave, Rock Choir, Teignmouth Players and Shaldon Theatre Company, Teignmouth Sings accompanied the Churches Together service. The TAAG centre held lantern making workshops and the lantern parade went from the TAAG to the Triangle led by Street Heat Samba band. Fortunately, the rain held off for two shows by Titan the Robot. The Farmers market joined the Christmas market in Wellington Street and people enjoyed crepes, cakes, preserves and much more. Once again, the Teignmouth Traders Association provided free mulled wine and mince pies.
Of course, Santa was in attendance giving out free colouring packs and Cllr Matthews’ steam engine pulled the sleigh. Festive Foxley mingled in the crowd on his illuminated penny farthing showing magic tricks. The winners of the Christmas tree decorating competition were members of the 1st Teignmouth Girls’ Brigade who had made their own decorations, Teign Valley Sea Cadets also took part and made recycled decorations, plus a local family joined in with the fun.
Cllr Matthews’, Chairman of the Christmas Lights Switch-on working group said ‘it was a great event and a big thank you to everyone who came along and to those who performed and helped with running the event. It is a team effort and the support is greatly appreciated’.
