Cllr David Matthews, Chairman of the Armed Forces Day working group commented ‘it was a pleasure to have Deputy Lieutenant of Devon Sir Andrew Ridgway, KBE, CB present for the official opening parade and to take the salute. I wish to say a big thank you to everyone who came to the event and those who helped make the day possible’.
Visitors were entertained by the 1940’s music roadshow, the City of Plymouth Pipe band, dancers from the Alice Cross Centre and pupils of Our Lady and St Patrick’s RC Primary school. Children (and adults) enjoyed the magic and circus skills shows, face painting, slackline school, and craft station provided by members of TRAIL and the TAAG centre.
The Mayor, Cllr Robert Phipps presented winners of the flag design competition with their prizes. You can see the winning design on the flag pole in the Triangle!
There were lots of exhibitors including T.S Canonteign Sea Cadets, Armed Forces Bikers, SSAFA, Royal British Legion, RNLI, Teign Heritage Centre, Assault Training Center, South Atlantic Medal Association, Devon Air Ambulance, RAFA, police, fire service and more. The tasty refreshments were provided by members of the Kingsway Residents Association.
