I’ve lived in Teignmouth for over 36 years and always tried to keep in touch with what is happening in town. One of the things I wanted to do as a Councillor, was find better ways to get information flowing to and from the Council and its residents. It is vital, if we are to represent your views, that you engage with us, your representatives. 3 years on I have created and distributed WAVELENGTH, the Council’s quarterly newsletter which tries to keep people up to date with news, events and general information. By dint of circulating this, I initiated the creation of a comprehensive list of local organisations so that we can target information, if necessary, to similar groups, and hopefully this will be completed very soon. As the Council’s Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner Councillor Advocate, I circulate information coming directly from colleagues in law enforcement and attend monthly meetings with our sector Inspector re our own area. I took on the Chair of the new Finance Committee last year and organised an overhaul of our Finance Regulations which has stood us in good stead in difficult circumstances. I also took on the Chair of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and have driven that now to its pre-submission consultation (which ends on19.8.22) with a view to presentation for examination as soon as we can. I have also sat on most other committees to ensure that a quorum exists and the business of the council gets done, since other councillors do not necessarily have the time available. So in my first 3 years not only have I contributed a lot, I have learnt a lot as well and hope that I have used that to better represent the Central Ward and answer residents’ questions. I will continue to do this to the best of my ability.
